About Skyward Construction

Skyward Construction is a commercial general contractor based in Ridgefield, WA, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business under new ownership and actively growing. We build and renovate across K-12 education, healthcare, and public and commercial work in the Pacific Northwest. This is a real chance to get in early and help build something, not just plug into a machine someone else already built.

Position Summary

We are bringing estimating fully in-house and need an Estimator who can both produce accurate bids today and help build the systems, templates, and processes that will carry our preconstruction function as we grow. You will own projects from $500K to $15M end to end. If you want visibility, ownership, and a direct hand in how a company estimates work, this is the seat.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Prepare detailed, defensible estimates for commercial, public, and federal projects from $500K to $15M

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop scope narratives, pricing assumptions, and exclusion logs

  • Solicit, track, and level subcontractor and supplier bids; identify and close scope gaps

  • Lead bid-day compilation: vet, validate, and compile subcontractor proposals with discipline

  • Attend pre-bid walks and jobsite visits (travel required)

  • Support clean handoffs from estimating to operations and the field

Building the Function

  • Develop and maintain estimating templates, unit-cost libraries, and historical cost data

  • Help build bid calendars, subcontractor databases, and a repeatable preconstruction process

  • Identify inefficiencies and put practical systems in place as bid volume grows

  • Help decide which work we pursue and which we walk away from

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of GC estimating experience (commercial, public, or federal)

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work across divisions

  • Strong command of construction means, methods, and cost drivers

  • Proficiency with takeoff and estimating tools (On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Excel, or similar)

  • Highly organized, process-driven, and comfortable working between the office and the field

  • Willing to travel for bid walks and jobsite visits; works well remotely

  • Valid driver’s license

What We Are Looking For

  • Self-starting, accountable, and detail-oriented

  • Interested in helping build structure inside a growing company

  • Comfortable owning a workload and improving how it gets done

  • Communicates early, accurately, and without prompting

Preferred

  • VA, DOE, or DOW project background

  • Experience helping develop or improve estimating processes

  • Public, K-12, or healthcare project experience

  • Experience authoring technical proposals for public or federal procurements

  • OSHA 30

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total compensation: $100,000 to $155,000+ (base salary $80,000 to $125,000 DOE)

  • Bid win bonuses and margin bonuses

  • Medical and dental insurance

  • 401(k) with up to 5% employer match

  • Paid time off

Skyward Construction LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a proud Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).
