About Skyward Construction

Skyward Construction is a commercial general contractor headquartered in Ridgefield, WA, and a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. We build and renovate across K-12 education, healthcare, and public and commercial facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest. We run lean, we hold our scope tight, and we expect the same discipline from estimating that we bring to the field.

Position Summary

We are hiring an Estimator to own takeoffs, pricing, and bid assembly across our commercial, public, and federal project mix, typically ranging from $500K to $15M. You will work the front end of our projects, turning drawings and specifications into accurate, defensible, well-documented bids and handing clean scope to operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed, defensible estimates for commercial, public, and federal projects from $500K to $15M

  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications across multiple divisions

  • Develop scope-of-work narratives, pricing assumptions, and exclusion logs

  • Solicit, track, and level subcontractor and supplier bids; identify and close scope gaps before a number leaves the building

  • Lead bid-day compilation: vet, validate, and compile subcontractor proposals with discipline

  • Write and track bid-period RFIs and clarifications

  • Maintain estimating templates, unit costs, and historical cost data

  • Attend pre-bid walks and jobsite visits (travel required)

  • Support clean handoffs from estimating to project management and the field

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of GC estimating experience (commercial, public, or federal)

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work

  • Working knowledge of construction means, methods, and divisions

  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff tools (On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Excel, or similar)

  • Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines at once

  • Willing to travel for bid walks and jobsite visits; works well remotely

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred

  • VA, DOE, or DOW project background

  • Experience with public, K-12, or healthcare work

  • Familiarity with prevailing wage projects (Oregon BOLI / Washington L&I)

  • Experience authoring technical proposals for public or federal procurements

  • OSHA 30 (or willingness to obtain)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total compensation: $100,000 to $155,000+ (base salary $80,000 to $125,000 DOE)

  • Bid win bonuses and margin bonuses

  • Medical and dental insurance

  • 401(k) with up to 5% employer match

  • Paid time off
